Workshop on the wild population status and trade dynamics of Humphead wrasse Cheilinus undulatus in Indonesia

Jakarta (14-15 February 2006)

Background

This workshop was conducted to further disseminate the inclusion of Humphead Wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus) to Appendix II of the CITES (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna) and the biological backgrounds accompanying the said decision, as well as to compile facts and status of HHW trade in Indonesia.

As one of the first workshops on Humphead Wrasse (HHW) trade in Indonesia, this workshop would serve as a starting point for many other workshops, research, and activities to encourage sustainable use of the species in question. Attended by many stakeholders, ranging from government agencies, research institutions, universities, as well as NGO workers, this workshop is expected to initiate better multi-stakeholder collaboration on the conservation and management of HHW in Indonesia.

This workshop was hosted by COREMAP-LIPI and supported by TRAFFIC South East Asia.
